Dudley to outline BP plans to help Gulf recover

The State -- NEW ORLEANS — Incoming BP CEO Bob Dudley was set to outline his company's long-term efforts to help the Gulf of Mexico recover from the oil spill Friday morning, and will be getting help from a Clinton administration-era emergency management official.

The oil giant said Dudley would be in Biloxi, Miss., to announce that former Federal Emergency Management Agency head James Lee Witt will support its recovery efforts. Local officials, especially in Louisiana, have been clamoring for more long-term commitments in the face of reports that the oil spill is dissipating, at least on the water's surface.

Conflicting reports about how much of the oil mess is actually gone. Of course, we can't see what is under the surface but some articles say most of the surface oil is gone while other articles suggest that is not true. Those suggesting that the surface oil is gone (and Mother Nature has done a great job of cleaning up) want the government to stop helping in the Gulf region. Soon the battle will not be between BP and the US citizens but rather between Gulf residents who want continued cleanup help and other US citizens that don't want any more tax money spent on the cleanup effort (since Mother Nature can do all the work from now on).

Here's to Dudley Do-Right. I hope he does right and staff cooperate. Of course if the man behaves himself appropriately, he will do 10 times better than Tony.

Let's hope this new BP CEO does a much better job than the outgoing CEO Tony Hayward.

Best of luck, Bob. You should feel like a salmon swimming upstream... a tough fight but worth it in the long run.
